5 June 2025

On June 5, 2025, the EU-funded GREENART Project proudly supported a hands-on workshop titled “A Greener Mounting System for Paper Artifacts” in Athens, hosted by DIADRASIS and led by renowned paper conservator Salvador Muñoz Viñas (IRP–UPV).

Held at the DIADRASIS premises, the one-day event welcomed nine selected participants for an intensive, practical training session. The workshop introduced an innovative paper mounting system that helps stabilize paper-based artworks — including posters, maps, prints, and drawings — across a wide range of relative humidity (RH) levels, without relying on expensive equipment or tightly controlled environmental conditions.

This low-tech, sustainable mounting method has been developed and refined since 2008 at the Instituto de Restauración del Patrimonio of the Universitat Politècnica de València. Under the GREENART Project, it was further polished and disseminated to the broader conservation community.

Participants engaged directly with the materials and methods, gaining first-hand experience with this practical solution that supports long-term storage and display of paper artifacts while aligning with GREENART’s mission of ecological responsibility and scientific advancement.

The event in Athens is another successful example of GREENART’s outreach efforts, ensuring that sustainable innovation in conservation reaches professionals on the ground.
